We've been away in Lanzarote,
Canary Islands for the last five weeks! Although I took loads of
photographs, this website isn't the place to show them, so I've just included
one, a stitched linear panorama taken from the top of the Famara Cliffs
on the west side of the island, that rise in places to 2,000 feet above
sea level.
A glimpse of Douglas
as we come in to land at Ronaldsway Airport at the end of our trip, flying
with Loganair from Manchester.
Unfortunately due to
handling problems at Manchester, our bags didn't make it onto the plane
with us, although we only discovered this after landing.

After being called to
say that out bags had eventually arrived at Ronaldsway I took a drive down
to collect them, then afterwards headed onwards to the Calf Sound.
My plan was to get some aerial pictures down there although the wind was
a bit gusty for the mini drone, so I wasn't able to shoot any panoramas.

The weather since we
arrived back on the island last Thursday afternoon has been fairly consistently
windy, ranging from a stiff breeze to gale force, together with a lot of
rain. Yesterday afternoon though, there was a temporary lull and I set
out with the intention of taking some ground level pictures of the autumn
colours around Tholt-y-Will.
I did take the mini
drone with me though and ended up just flying that! It was a bit
dull and overcast and with the sunset being at 16:55 time was a bit short
for flying. A lot of the paths in Tholt-y-Will Glen are closed at
present, those in the southern end since gale damage this year, but some
others must have been closed for up to 20 years now, which is a shame as
they went over and around a lovely waterfall down into Sulby Glen.

Yesterday afternoon
I went back to Tholt-y-Will with the intention of getting some ground level
pictures to compliment the aerial ones. The plan was to walk down
to the
Alt Waterfall before
taking a stroll around the tholtans on the hillside, but after I'd parked
the car I discovered that the entire glen is closed off due to storm damage.
A quick change of plans and I had my walk around the tholtans followed
by driving down to river level at Tholt-y-Will for a few pictures there.

A visit to Colby Glen
yesterday afternoon. In common with many of the other scenic glens
on the island, some footpaths closed due to storm damage.
Starting with a picture
from the iMuseum, taken at the Fairy Pool there in the 1890s.
