The 'Brig Lily'
memorial. The ship ran aground on Kitterland on the 27th December
1852, but due to the heroism of local men only five of the crew were lost.
The next day the same men were trying to recover her cargo when the ship,
which was carrying gunpowder in her cargo, exploded, killing 29 of them.
